For a while now I buy my chia seeds from wholesalers I found online (same business sells also goji berries). I was pleased to see that they have a decent warehouse, they don’t operate only on the web. Available this way, my chia seeds come though in a larger quantity (3 months supply) but it is for a much better bulk price.
Chia looks to be a very oily plant, or at least the seeds from the plant are very oily. The seeds float on milk, due to because they have been dried plus each chia seed consist of around ~30% of oil which can also be extracted. I once had a chance to see these chia plants on a real large field, the plants were about 3 feet from the ground and taller (~ 1 meter high). But mainly what pleases me the most, chia seeds contain omega3 fatty acids ( 18:3, n-3; α-linolenic acid, Alfa-Linolenic Acids, ALA, Omega-3 fatty acids or ω-3 fatty acids ) an important segment in diet for human physiology.
* I’ve noticed a couple of sources mentioning chia seeds contains also vitamin C. However I had not yet had a chance to try such a chia product which would have a vitamin C amount stated on its packaging. Chia is full of fats, fiber and protein and it is seed. To me the vitamin C doesn’t stick in here. I might be wrong thus I am opened to any discussion about chia contra vitamin C. Do chia seeds contain Vitamin C ?

Sorry but I’m confused as I can’t seem to understand how many tablespoon of chia seeds there are in a pound bags of seeds.
–
Answer: Each chia bag weighing 1 pound will have 44.6 tbsp ( ~ 45 tablespoons ) portions of chia seeds because one pound of it contains the 44.6 table spoons of chia seeds.
1 lb weight ≅ 45 tbsp of chia
16 oz weight ≅ 45 tbsp of chia
1 tablespoon ≅ 0.4 ounce of chia
–
I mix 6 tablespoons in with my daily yogurt(3) and want to discover how much I must bring with me on a 30 day trip.
–
Answer: If using those 6 tablespoon of chia seeds with yogurt daily, per 30 days it makes it 180 tbsp’s in total. 180 tablespoons of chia equals to 4.04 lb ≅ 4 one pound bags for 30 days at 6 spoons per day consumption. So for whole month take 4 bags 1 lb each.
–
I frankly must admit to confusion as the bag I have claim there are 8.25 grams of fiber in just two tablespoons of chia as well as 5grams of protein. This doesn’t seem to jive from what I have been reading here.
–
Answer: Correct labeling on first sight or thought out of my head! Chia seeds have around 41% dietary fiber content ( which is 41 g per 100 grams amount ), roughly rounded 40% or 40 grams per 100g. 2 tbsp of whole chia seeds = 20.35 g (gram) of chia seeds weight, which would be:
20.35(g) / 100(%) = 0.2035
0.2035 * 41(%) = 8.3435(g)
Rounded: 8.3 grams of fiber from 2 tbsps volume of chia seeds.
The same calculation but with 40 grams (instead 41g/100g) has result 8.14 grams in 2 tablespoons.
8.25 grams of fiber from 2 tbsp of chia is just fine calculation. Same for the protein amount in chia seeds. To my knowledge chia is very healthy to eat, to have it included in everyday diet.

I am using ground chia to thicken water and liquids for my 92-year-old mom, who has swallowing problems that come with aging. I use chia instead of a corn-based thickener in order to avoid using GMO/non-organic corn products. It works well and I need to make conversions when pricing buying in bulk so I know how long it will last us. So I really need a whole seed to ground conversion from weight to volume (one pound of chia whole equals how many cups of ground chia.)
Thanks so much.
added by admin:
Let me know with what do you grind your chia seeds. I would try to grind them to weigh the ground chia, and then make the converter. First I must have the exact weight of 1 cup ground chia seeds to calculate with.
