It works for me fain. Or what device type have you used to make the skim milk powder from those four tablespoons into grams conversion? It converts automatically seen in the area above the enter amount text field.
Amount : 4 tablespoons (tbsp) of skim milk powder
Equals : 17 grams (g) of skim milk powder

Excellent range of useful converters including for this low fat dry milk powder. I am not confident that all tsp and tbsp measures are level – because some directions on the web or in books use heaped teaspoons and tablespoons. Could you confirm when relevant? (I measured powdered skimmed milk (Marvel brand) as ~8gm per level tbsp using proper kitchen measures that give~12gm/tbsp water, but 4.25gm in your converter so worth checking that).
Comment from/about : Heaped measures?
Please note that this is converter for the Instant Dry Nonfat, Skimmed, Milk Powder. Then there is also the Regular Dry Nonfat, Skimmed, Milk Powder type. The regular is nearly twice as heavy than this instant dried skimmed, nonfat, milk. I will make a new calculator for that one too. Instant versus Regular dry skim/non-fat milk.
OR …
You may have a different tablespoon in volume sense. 1 UK Tbsp differs to 1 US or Metric tablespoon. Perhaps I should add also UK volume measures in these calculators (these and other countries are in the volume converter for now.) The one in this instant non-fat skim milk dry powder calculator has 15mL per Tbsp (15g water = 15 milliliters), or exactly 16 Tbsp per 1 US measuring cup. Metric cup has 250mL volume ~ 17 Tbsp. Also, how did you fill your tablespoon with the powdered skimmed milk, by scooping with the spoon or was the spoon filled by adding the skim milk powder into the spoon by dropping it in?
Could it be that you had the spoon packed and plus heaped at the same time therefore the higher weight? With your result it would come to nearly double per one cup, ~ 130g ~ , note that the instant dry skim milk has quite low density … 1 cup US of instant skim milk powder weighs 68 grams (whilst the regular kind is heavier opposed to the instant dried milk.)
Could you input in the milliliters as ‘from volume’ unit instead of tablespoon/s and convert into grams etc.?
It is leveled spoons and cups too. Heaped levels are only approximate and cannot be measured accurately when required. Plus the volumes measured are filled in the same way like with flours, to keep accuracy, NOT scooped. Scooping makes the subject measured packed, heavier with no accurate control over it. Try to fill your measure by adding the dried skim milk powder into the Tbsp e.g. with another spoon, dropping it in, then scrape off the extra above the rim and weigh again after.

Dear Rado
I have checked as you advise.
The bulk poured density of this particular Marvel brand skimmed milk powder is 0.448kg/liter (the volume measure checked against water at 1kg/liter. ( It is fresh powder & I checked the powder was loose and easily pouring in its container before pouring 0.5 litres.)
That gives for (the metric cup measure of 17Tbsp/250ml) a mass of 6.6gm/Tbsp.
Also for the one in the calculator with a 15ml Tbsp that gives a mass of 6.7gm per Tbsp.
Both close enough for cooking.
So metric cup 112gm, US cup 108gm
A scooped & leveled Tbsp, really how people would do it in cooking, came out at 7.0gm/Tbsp (Av of 10), but in our measuring set the Tbsp averages 13.5gm of water/Tbsp. So 7gm/13.5ml gives a scoop density of 0.52kg/liter, which as you say is a bit more than the poured density.
So at 15ml/Tbsp and 16 Tbspn/ US cup that equals 124gm.
I think that we can say the error scooping is an extra ~15% of powder.
So a different density. I think that different powdered skim milk brands must be able to vary their bulk density to achieve better ability to dissolve & perhaps there are marketing advantages, or just different processes, so there will be inherent uncertainty to these measures.
The US-metric differences I now realise are not that different for ordinary cooking, particularly given errors in equipment. Perhaps a note to say that measures are level and the ml volumes used would help, but the uncertainties with brands may be worth observing for particular products, and that scooping can compact some loose powders, for example skimmed milk has been measured to compact by 15%.
I hope that helps your good work.

Alastair

Dear Alastair,
Thank you very much for looking into this. Basically your email helped me to come up with the ANSWER to our subject!
The difference in the densities for the product/s variant of the skim (non-fat) dry milk is only: “INSTANT” and “REGULAR”
In fact the instant dried milk powder type is almost 2 times lighter-in-weight than the regular dried milk powder! The instant kind is somewhat aerated and more loose, it can be poured easily when compared with the regular dry milk. The page, if you look at it with this knowledge is for the instant type. I have to make it more visible now.
With compliments again.
Good vibes,
Rado
PS nice to meet you like this – it’s fruitful education/knowledge wise.
